Call Nominations Leeuwenhoek Medal 2015
The jury for awarding the Leeuwenhoek-medal 2015 (previously awarded by the KNAW, but now awarded by the KNVM) calls universities, research institutes, scientific societies, individual scientists and others to nominate qualified candidates for the prestigious Leeuwenhoek-medal 2015. This medal has been awarded ever since 1877, on average every 10-12 years, to a scientist who made very important and excellent contributions to Microbiology over the last 10-12 years. Next to the medal, the winner will present his/her work at the KNVM symposium 2015 in Papendal and will receive an honory membership of the KNVM. Springer (the Antonie van Leeuwenhoek Journal) will sponsor the medal.
Previous award winners include: C.G. Ehrenberg, Germany, F. Cohn, Poland, L. Pasteur, France, M.W. Beijerinck, Netherlands, Sir D. Bruce, UK, F. d’Herelle, Egypt, S. Nikolaevitch Winogradsky, France, S.A. Waksman, USA, A. Lwoff, France, C.B. van Niel, USA, R.Y. Stanier, France, C.R. Woese, USA, and K. Stetter, Germany.
The nomination should include a short motivation (1 to 2 pages A-4), in which the quality, impact and relevance of the scientific work are highlighted, a short CV of the candidate and a list of his/her most important publications (not more than 10). These documents may be in English or Dutch. Nominations need to be received on or before 10th of June 2014 by the secretariat of KNVM, Dr. Jetta Bijlsma (jetta.bijlsma@merck.com) preferably by email.
