International Microorganism Day marks the foundation of modern microbiology, inspired by the discoveries of Antonie van Leeuwenhoek. To continue raising awareness and promoting the importance of microorganisms in health and society, we are pleased to invite you to the first KNVM Microorganism Day on Friday, 18th September, in Wageningen.

This event aims to connect Early Career Researchers (ECRs) working across diverse research areas and to strengthen your ability to communicate your work not only to peers but also to a broader audience. The program includes scientific talks, a personal development workshop, and a discussion session focused on troubleshooting challenges in your day-to-day work.

The scientific program highlights the growing need to integrate data on diverse microorganisms found in animals, plants, food, and the environment. Speakers from ongoing initiatives and organizations will offer insight into collaborative efforts between academia and industry, and their impact on society.

In addition to scientific content, we also aim to support your personal development. An interactive pitching workshop by Frank Smallegange will provide practical tips on capturing and maintaining your audience’s attention. The day will conclude with an open discussion on troubleshooting challenges you may encounter and ways to address them.

This event is open only to PhD candidates and postdocs who are KNVM members. Members can log in to the KNVM website to register. The venue can host a maximum of 90 attendees, so sign up now. Invitations may be forwarded, but non-members will first need to join KNVM in order to participate.

Registration is now open; you can find the registration button on the left (only when logged in as a member).
