Microbial Ecology

Mission

Microbial ecology is the study of interactions between microbes and their environments or hosts. Microbial communities are central to key ecosystem functions. These functions are the result of a multitude of interactions within microbial communities and between microbial communities and macro-organisms. For many microbial ecosystems, ranging from soils and oceans to waste water treatment facilities and mammalian guts, there is a strong demand to be able to modulate functioning of microbial communities to our benefit.

The section Microbial Ecology aims to link researchers active in microbial ecology research from different disciplines and to disseminate scientific research in this field.
